Our objective is to place dancers with other dancers of similar ability and age in order to provide a strong curriculum of skill, focus and challenge for all. While age is not a prime factor in class placement decisions, you will see approximate age ranges listed next to some classes below. These listed age ranges are to be used as a guideline when starting classes for the first time.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DANCE PROGRAM

Our Early Childhood Dance Program is specifically designed to provide children between the ages of 18 months and six with a strong foundation in dance and movement. Creative activities are a large part of each class. The use of stories, games, and props facilitates a fun and creative environment.

We have created a comprehensive early childhood dance syllabus that focuses on the basic physical elements of space, movement, musical awareness, directions, and elementary positions of ballet. In addition to these physical elements, we integrate the intellectual concepts of self-awareness, teamwork, creative expression, imagination, and basic body awareness.

The Program also helps children learn the basics of classroom behavior and manners, which include learning how to take turns, following another dancer or leading the way, waiting patiently, working together with others, and having a positive attitude. By the end of the year, your young dancers will be able to dance independently of the instructor, memorize simple exercises and sequences, and begin to interpret music.

FOUNDATION CLASSES

Our foundation classes are meant to be taken in combination with each other. Each style of dance is specifically spotlighted so that the dancers’ individual skills and needs may be more fully addressed. Placement is based first on a student's ability to consistently execute the required skills for each level and then on age. A student's ability to progress through each level successfully is based on the ability to consistently execute, retain, and comprehend the skills taught at each level. An audition or teacher recommendation is strongly suggested for proper placement.

FOUNDATION CLASS DISCOUNT: Ballet is considered to be the most important foundation of all dance classes. Tap and Jazz are meant to be taken in conjunction with ballet. If you choose not to take ballet, your first foundation-level class will be the same price as that ballet-level class, regardless of the time per week. When taken in conjunction with other foundation-level classes, jazz and tap are $35 to add the second foundation class and $20 to add the second foundation class.

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. After January, recital classes are closed to new students, as “New to Dance” dancers entering at this point have missed essential technique progression and foundational work, making placement ineffective for both the dancer and the class. To continue providing meaningful and appropriate training options for new-to-dance and mid-season students, we proudly offer non-recital classes.
